plaid friday

You probably know what Black Friday is, but this year Gillette is introducing a new concept: “Plaid Friday.”

The tradition was founded ten years ago and has spread across the country. Plaid Friday is a substitute for the term “Black Friday.” You don’t necessarily have to buy anything to take part. Just wear your plaid this Friday, November 29, if you’re out and about.

“We all need one another, and are only as strong as we are when we support each other, just like the threads of a plaid fabric,” says Gillette Main Street Executive Director, Jessica Seders.

Gillette Main Street plans to make the occasion an annual event, sporting plaid downtown, and offering the “Plaid Passport” — a way for people to visit Main Street stores, and be entered to win $200 in Downtown Dollars. (This year’s Winter Walk buttons also show off the plaid!)

The nationwide Plaid Friday event is part of a movement called “Shift Your Shopping,” designed to champion independently owned retailers. Plaid Friday is designed to change the idea of holiday shopping from a frenzied experience the day after Thanksgiving, to a relaxed, fun way to spend time with family and friends.

Gillette’s putting their own spin on things, by showing off our red buffalo check. Stores are encouraged to decorate in buffalo check plaid, and wear it to show their support. If you plan on shopping this Friday, remember to wear your plaid to show your love for Gillette!
